Learning for Life: Managing MS-related Sexual
Dysfunction
The central nervous system controls
all messages that travel from the brain to every part of the
body which includes impulses to the sexual organs. MS can damage
these pathways and thus can disrupt sexual function. Sexual
problems can also be a result of other MS symptoms such as
fatigue or spasticity. Psychological factors relating to self-esteem
and mood changes can have an adverse affect as well. The MS
Society of Canada is offering a live online education session
focusing on MS and sexual dysfunction with these key points
in mind:
-
the changes in sexual function and/or
responsiveness common in MS
-
treatment options and problem-solving
behaviors that have proven effective in response
-
resources for support among the
health professional community and the community at large.
The English session took
place on June 13th. Dr. Rosalind Kalb the
Director of the Professional Resource Center at the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society in New York City was the key note
speaker.
