and services
Over 9,300 participants pedal up to 170 km to show their support for MS
Toronto - The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada’s 2003 MS Bike Tour
program raised a record $4.83 million this year thanks to over
9,300 cyclists in 20 events from Nova Scotia to British Columbia.
“The MS Bike Tours demonstrate true grit and determination,” said Ken Mayhew, vice-president of National fundraising for the MS Society of Canada. “This
is a very challenging event and to have another record-breaking year is a testament
to the character and commitment of our participants, volunteers and sponsors
from coast-to-coast.”
National sponsors of the MS Bike Tour are Culligan, Brinks, Yahoo! Canada, Giant Bicycles, Atlas Van Lines and Pedal Magazine. National sponsors, in conjunction with the MS Society of Canada and thousands of volunteers across the country, provide Canadians with the opportunity for a one- or two-day ride through often spectacularly scenic parts of the country. The first MS Bike Tour was held in 1989 and attracted over 600 cyclists while raising more than $400,000. Since then, the MS Bike tours have raised over $26 million in the fight against multiple sclerosis.
The MS Bike Tours take place in the summer and early fall. For more information and to find the closest MS Bike Tour in your area, please visit www.msbiketours.com.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. It is the most common neurological disease of young adults in Canada. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, and the unpredictable effects of MS last for the rest of their lives. The MS Society provides services to people with MS and their families and funds research to find the cause, prevention, treatment and cure for this devastating disease.
