The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is open to research which will lead to major advances in our understanding of the causes of, and potential treatments, for MS — such as new drug therapies, CCSVI, and myelin repair strategies.
The MS Society has funded medical research into multiple sclerosis
since the first grant of $10,000 was approved in 1949. It is
now, along with its related MS Scientific Research Foundation,
the single largest funder of MS research in Canada.
Of the research
projects currently funded, about half are targeted at myelin
biology and repair. Particular attention is focussed on finding
ways to stimulate central nervous system cells to produce new
myelin. Other significant areas of MS research are genetic susceptibility,
immunology, MRI studies, Clinical and Population Health Research
and treatment effects. The MS Society also funds young researchers
just beginning careers at the masters, doctoral and postdoctoral
levels.
Announcement:
Interventional Clinical Trial for CCSVI in MS Patients
On November 30, 2011, CIHR announced a Request for Applications (RFA).The deadline for receiving applications is the end of February 2012.
Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation (MSSRF) Awards
The Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation (MSSRF) oversees funds to stimulate innovative and collaborative research which will lead to major advances in understanding the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) or to new or enhanced therapies for the disease. These funds are separate from the regular research program funded by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (MSSOC) and are meant to support large, multi-centre, collaborative studies that are beyond the scope of the regular research program.
Application deadline to submit a Letter of Intent is December 16, 2011 at 23:59 ET.
» Collaborative Multi-Centre Grants
This research funding program supports large, innovative, multi-centre collaborative studies that will lead to major advances in the field of multiple sclerosis. This is open to research which will lead to major advances in our understanding of the causes of, and potential treatments, for MS — such as new drug therapies, CCSVI, and myelin repair strategies. The MSSRF is still funding research in genetic susceptibility to MS, pediatric MS, and stem cell therapies.
To be considered for this grant first submit a letter of intent.
The number and details of the applications will not be released in order to respect the confidentiality of applicants. There is a well established convention in the administration of scientific research funding programs that only successful awards are made public. This is a professional courtesy to the investigators who did not get recommended for funding.
